Master up to 45 Near Coastal
This qualification is suitable for those sailing as Master on vessels up to 45 metres in length within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) or a Mate on vessels up to 100 metres in length.

This qualification is currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification as:
- command a vessel <45 m long <EEZ
- command a vessel <100 m and <3000 GT in inshore waters
- act as chief mate or deck watchkeeper on a vessel <100 m and <3000 GT <EEZ
- undertake the duties and perform the functions of a General Purpose Hand NC

Licensing/Regulatory Information
AMSA certification of competency will require achievement of:
- MAR40324 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal)
- Certification as a Master up to 24 metres Near Coastal,
- long range operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) issued by ACMA (or higher qualification),
- holding a current first aid certificate as specified in Marine Order 505.
- Assessment by an AMSA approved assessor using the AMSA mandated practical assessment (AMPA) conducted on a commercial vessel
- Sea Service – you must have completed either:
- 180 days qualifying sea service on a commercial vessel at least 12m long – including 120 days as person in charge of a navigational watch and a completed AMSA approved task book. Task book can be purchased at SMIT.
- 360 days qualifying sea service on a commercial vessel at least 12m long – including 240 days as person in charge of a navigational watch without an AMSA approved task book.
